Differences between Halong bay, Lan Ha bay, Bai Tu Long bay is common question from most of our customer. As you are foreigner and being strainger here then it’s hard for you to figure out. And you may get lost! Three of them are bays with similar view and activities. Let’s get to know them with Hai Phong Tours now.

At the moment, only Halong bay is recognized by UNESCO – https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/672. The others are under review.

Locations of Halong bay, Lan Ha bay, Bai Tu Long bay

Halong bay, Lan Ha bay, Bai Tu Long bay belong to Vietnam. This is beautiful, peaceful country in Southeast Asia.

Halong bay

Ha Long Bay is located in Halong city, Quang Ninh province, from E106°55′ to E107°37′ and from N20°43′ to N21°09′. The bay has a 120-kilometre-long (75 mi) coastline and is approximately 1,553 km2 (600 sq mi) in size with about 2,000 islets.

Lan Ha bay

Lan Ha bay is located in Hai Phong city. Geologically, Lan Ha bay is an extension of Halong Bay. Around 200 species of fish, 500 species of mollusc, 400 species of arthropod, and numerous hard and soft coral live in the waters here, while larger marine animals in the area include seals and three species of dolphin.

Bai Tu Long bay

Bai Tu Long bay is located in Halong city, Quang Ninh province

Halong bay tours

When you want to go to Halong bay, you can choose Halong bay 1 day tour, Halong bay 2 day tour, Halong bay 3 day tour.

Halong bay 1 day tour

You will do either kayaking or bamboo boat trip, walk in Thien Cung cave

Halong bay 2 day 1 night tour

You will also do either kayaking or bamboo boat trip, swimming, panoramic view from Titop peak, walk in Sung Sot cave, join in cooking class.

Halong bay 3 day 2 night tour

It’s similar to 2 day trip plus more: visiting fishing village, and more time for kayaking, swimming.

Lan Ha bay tours

Activities on Lan Ha bay are different. You can still choose Lan Ha Bay 1 day cruise tour, or Lan Ha bay 2 day 1 night, Lan Ha bay 3 day 2 night. You can also combine Lan Ha bay tour with land tour on Cat Ba island like Cat Ba, Lan Ha bay 2 day 1 night, Cat Ba Lan Ha bay 3 day 2 night.

Lan Ha Bay 1 day cruise tour

This trip is longer than the one on Halong. Time is almost double (around 8h trip). You will visit fishing village, do kayaking, swimming or bamboo boat trip, join in cooking class, fruit carving demonstration. You will not walk in any cave here

Lan Ha bay 2 day 1 night

When you do this overnight trip, you will do kayaking, swimming, enjoy the cooking demonstration, squid fishing, listen to traditional music performance, do Tai Chi exercise. You will not walk in any cave here.

Lan Ha bay 3 day 2 night

Activities in this 3 day tour is similar to the 2 day trip. But you will do cycling around the rainforest, rice fields at Viet Hai village. And you have more time for kayaking.

As mentioned above, when you want to combine this cruise tour with a visit to military hospital cave on Cat Ba island, let’s do this:

Cat Ba, Lan Ha bay 2 day 1 night

In this combination, you will visit Military Hospial Cave, do kayaking or bamboo boat trip, join in cooking class, squid fishing, do Tai Chi exercise.

Cat Ba, Lan Ha bay 3 day 2 night.

When you do 3 day tour, it’s similar to the 2 day tour but you will do cycling around the rainforest, rice fields at Viet Hai village. And you have more time for kayaking.

Bai Tu Long bay tours

Bai Tu Long bay 2 day 1 night

When you do this cruise tour, you will visit the famous Vung Vieng fishing village, you can do either kayaking or bamboo boat trip, cooking class, squid fishing, walk in Thien Canh Son cave. This cave is basic and not as stunning as caves on Halong bay. But scenery on Bai Tu Long bay is nicer than Halong bay. Swimming is not available on Bai Tu Long bay.

Bai Tu Long bay 3 day 2 night

It’s similar to the 2 day tour. But you will spend more time for kayaking at Tra San, Vung Ha island. Swimming is not available on Bai Tu Long bay.
